ABOUT THE BAND
Stone Sour was an American rock band formed in Des Moines, Iowa during the early nineteen nineties by vocalist Corey Taylor and drummer Joel Ekman. The band’s name was inspired by a cocktail menu at a local bar. Taylor’s longtime friend Shawn Economaki soon joined on bass, and after a rotating cast of guitarists, the lineup stabilized later that decade with the arrival of Jim Root. The band performed for several years before disbanding, a period during which Taylor and Root focused on their other band, the up-and-coming act Slipknot.
After Slipknot released its first two albums, Stone Sour reunited in the early two thousands. The band signed with Roadrunner Records and released its self-titled debut album, which achieved gold certification and earned two Grammy Award nominations. Over the years, Stone Sour released six studio albums, including a platinum-selling follow-up and a two-part concept album. The band went through several lineup changes, with Root, Economaki, and Ekman departing in the two thousand tens. The final stable lineup featured Taylor, guitarists Josh Rand and Christian Martucci, bassist Johny Chow, and drummer Roy Mayorga. After completing the touring cycle for their sixth album, the band went on indefinite hiatus as members pursued other projects.
