ABOUT THE BAND

Camel is a British progressive rock band formed in 1971.

Camel was conceived around 1964 when brothers Andrew and Ian Latimer joined with their respective friends Alan Butcher and Richard Over to form The Phantom Four. In 1969, Andrew organized The Brew along with Doug Ferguson on bass and Andy Ward on drums. By December 1971, Camel is formally composed of Peter Bardens (keyboards), Doug Ferguson (bass), Andy Ward (drums, percussion) and Andrew Latimer (guitar, vocals)”.

In August 1972, Camel signed a contract with MCA Records, entering the studio to record their first official production. In the middle of the recordings, producer Dave Williams asks them to hire a singer. After auditioning almost 30 people for the position they decide to simply sing themselves, from then on the songs will have a quite unique vocalization due to Latimer and Bardens’ voices.

Considered one of the best bands to emerge from the progressive scene of the 1970s, Camel experimented with elements of jazz, classical, blues and even electronic music to create albums of remarkable creativity and technical precision – Camel Discography
