ABOUT Deftones
Deftones is a multi-platinum selling alternative metal band from Sacramento, California. Its original members are Camilo “Chino” Moreno (vocals), Stephen “Stef” Carpenter (guitarist), Abraham “Abe” Cunningham (drums), “Chi” Ling Dai Cheng (bass), and Frank Delgado (turntables, samples, keyboards). Today, ex-Quicksand Sergio Vega serves as bassist after Chi Cheng’s death on April 14, 2013.
Deftones was part of the American Nu-Metal scene, although it is true that they have had dalliances with other styles more distant from the well-known Californian sound. Johnny Loftus said “rock critics often reserve a special place for them over the rest of the Nu-Metal movement (a genre they have left behind). While they definitely share the influence of a band like Tool as well as Korn, Deftones have always been curious and willing to incorporate sounds like ‘dream pop’ and ‘D.C. hardcore’ into their Northern California alternative metal”.
