Nirvana was formed in Seattle when Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic joined Dale Crover to play small venues around the city in 1985 and 1986. They adopted several names for the group, but none of them really liked it until they finally took over Nirvana’s name. They were the standard bearer of what came to be known as ‘grunge’ music

In 1986 they published their first model. It was a homemade work, since they made it in a room of one of Kurt’s aunts.

In 1988 Nirvana recorded their first single, produced by Jack Endino, from the small Sub Pop label. The album included two songs: ‘Love Buzz’ and ‘Big Cheese’. By then, drummer Dan Crover had been replaced by Chad Channing.

Following in the wake of the previous single, they recorded ‘Bleach’, their first studio album, which was made in just three days and cost $600. Meanwhile, Nirvana continued to perform on Seattle’s alternative music circuits and had made a habit of smashing musical instruments at the end of their concerts.

In 1990 they recorded their second album, entitled ‘Nevermind’, with new drummer Dave Grohl, who replaced Chad Channing in the middle of the recording. Now with the Geffen label, they got a contract for two albums and a substantial advance, so they had better means to do a good job.
