It seems incredible that 40 years have passed since its foundation and 35 years since the day Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony put their respective signatures on a contract with Warner Brothers label and changed forever the world of hard rock, especially EVH with his guitar.

But that’s how it was and we wanted to take advantage of the arrival of this anniversary to dedicate this space to look back at what has been the history and trajectory of this monster of rock. So let’s start from the beginning.

The Van Halen brothers were born in Holland in 1953 (Alex) and 1955 (Eddie), respectively, moving with their parents to Pasadena, California in 1962. At an early age their father Jan, also a musician, got his children to take music lessons. Although Eddie and Alex both took piano lessons, Eddie switched to drums and Alex to guitar, until eventually they exchanged instruments. The Van Halen brothers formed the band Mammoth in 1972, but had to change their name since another group was using it. Their singer, David Lee Roth suggested that they be called Van Halen and… the rest is history.
