INXS (“in excess”) Was an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1977 under the name of The Farriss Brothers. At that time it was made up of the brothers Tim (guitar), Jon (drums) and Andrew (keyboards). The group also included guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly, bassist Garry Beers and singer Michael Hutchence. In 1979 they changed their name to INXS and the following year they released their first single: “Simple Simon”/”We Are The Vegetables”.

For twenty years they were led by Michael Hutchence in voice, whose sensual appearance and magnetic presence on stage made him a point of attraction for the band. Their musical style was initially a mix of New Wave, ska and pop, which later evolved into a harder kind of pub rock, which included elements of funk and dance.
